Monkeypox

Monkeypox is an infectious disease caused by the monkeypox virus, which is transmitted to humans mainly through close contact with people or animals, or material contaminated by the virus. The incubation period is usually 6-13 days and can be as long as 5-21 days. Monkeypox originated in the rainforests of central and west Africa and spread around the world. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 50,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported worldwide, and the U.S. has reported more than 18,000 cases, the highest number of confirmed cases in the world. The global death toll is 15. (data as of Aug. 30)
